Fire Safety Inspections Should Solve Problems, Not Create More

As the owner or manager of a public or private-use facility, you’re responsible for fire safety — but without in-house expertise, it can be difficult to understand your true level of compliance.

Surveys can often cause unnecessary disruption, deliver overwhelming reports packed with excessive detail, and leave you to plan remedial work by yourself, all while audits and deadlines loom.

At Spectis, we give you clarity not confusion.

We conduct expert fire safety surveys with minimal disruption, then deliver clear, detailed reports, risk-ranked action plans, and ongoing support to help you maintain the health and safety obligations of your facility.

You’ll always know what needs doing, when, and why — with Spectis you will gain a trusted fire safety partner.

We will even provide you with a no-obligation risk-prioritised remedial plan & quote from our sister company Fireact, should you wish to take remedial action right away.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fire Safety Assessments

What is the difference between a fire risk assessment and a fire compartmentation survey?

A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement that reviews your building’s overall fire safety — including escape routes, signage, and fire systems. A compartmentation survey is a more in-depth inspection of your building’s internal fire barriers (walls, floors, risers, voids) to ensure fire and smoke can’t spread. They work together to provide full passive and active protection.

How often should I have a fire safety survey carried out?

You should review your fire risk assessment every 12 months or sooner if there have been changes to your building layout, use, or occupancy. Fire door inspections and compartmentation surveys should be carried out regularly — typically every 6 to 12 months — depending on building type, risk profile, and regulatory requirements.

Do I need a fire stopping or passive fire protection survey?

Yes — especially if your building has been extended, refurbished, or if you manage multi-occupancy premises. A fire stopping survey checks whether walls, ceilings, and service penetrations are properly sealed to prevent fire spread. It’s essential for compliance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Building Regulations.

Are Spectis fire safety surveys compliant with UK fire safety laws?

Yes. All Spectis surveys are carried out by qualified fire safety professionals to relevant British Standards and sector-specific guidance (e.g. HTM 05-02 for healthcare, Fire Safety England Regulations 2022 for housing). We follow industry best practice and deliver reports that support your compliance with the Fire Safety Order.

Will a fire safety survey disrupt our operations?

No — we work flexibly to minimise disruption. Our surveyors are experienced in sensitive environments (e.g. hospitals, schools, care homes) and can arrange visits during quiet periods, holidays, or out-of-hours. Our team are also Enhanced-DBS checked and CPI-trained where required.

Can Spectis help us take action after the survey?

Yes. Our reports are written in plain English, risk-ranked (Red–Amber–Green), and include photographic evidence. We guide you through next steps, can refer trusted contractors, and provide ongoing support to ensure you move from survey to full compliance with confidence.
